Triumph TR4 Pages
I sold my TR2 on July 22nd 2000 and it has since been restored to a very high standard
46 BHX in 2011
I have left
this WEB page as a reminder of the condition of the car when
I sold it.

TR2-Original
front cowling - Shows Geranium around Headlights TR2-Original
front cowling - View from behind The same is true for the grille, which
is the correct early aluminium type. The bonnet is aluminium (original)
and needs some small repairs. The boot lid is rusty but repairable. The
spare wheel cover is steel (original) The car will benefit from all new
wings, but three of the originals are available and repairable with the
right equipment. One good quality rear wing (shot blasted) comes with the
car. The doors are the long door variety and need re skinning, and probably
some other work. Gearbox tunnel is the original metal - some repairs are
needed around the bolt holes The dashboard is the original aluminium and
may need some small repairs (switch holes) The original seats come with
the car and these need reconditioning. Most of the original aluminium coamings
come with the car (need recovering) Any interior upholstery that is available
is with the car, but will all need replacing

This picture originally appeared on the front page of Autosport on March 5th 1954 (See Bill Piggott's book)
The car is an original British right hand drive TR2, and was
dismantled totally when I sold it.
I owned the car in the 1970's and carried out a lot of work
on in in order for it to pass its MOT. I then sold the car in around
1981 after two year's motoring (occasional) and it has not run on the
roads since. I bought the car back from the person who I sold it to
in 1995.

CONDITION
Chassis
Shotblasted before repairs undertaken by professional car repairer
New driver’s side suspension turret and all other fittings
New rear cross tubes
Stronger TR4 type rear shock absorber mountings fitted
All Body mounting tubes and plates replaced
All rusty areas removed and replaced with good metal
Extra plate added under gearbox (similar to TR4) for strength
The chassis now needs blasting (or wire brushing) and then either zinc
spraying or painting.
Bodywork
Original bodywork - rear section/floors and sills were beyond repair
and have been thrown away.
TR2-Before dismantling - showing side view
TR2-Body tub - rear end showing Geranium colour and rust
TR2-Another view of the back end - not suitable for restoration
Front section from bulkhead forward will
be included
TR2-Body tub - bulkhead showing Geranium colour
Second hand TR3A
pre 600000 bodyshell has been obtained (ex USA) which is rusty but mainly
sound.
TR2-Better
bodyshell as delivered A small amount of repairs are necessary (needs
a new battery box which is provided with the car) PLUS the conversion back
to the original TR2 body work. This mainly consists of welding in new metal
in the area of the plenum chamber hole, which has been cut out, plus mods
to remove the rear flasher light mountings. This bodywork needs shot blasting
to find out if there are any other unsound areas needing repair. The front
bumper is original and needs re chroming, the same goes for the rear over
riders. The front cowling is in very good condition and appears to be original.
Suspension &
steering
The front suspension is complete and in good condition but will need
new bushes. Two new front springs (uprated) and two new trunnions
are included.
Two new rear springs will probably be needed. New U bolts and pins
will be needed. New rubber bushes needed
The track rod ends are in good condition, as are the top suspension
joints. Two new idler bushes will be needed.
All metal steering parts are included.
The steering box had new bearings inserted when last rebuilt, and
will just need an ajdustment check when fitted back on the car
The car has the original TR2 steering wheel, and direction indicator
switches, that need cosmetic reconditioning.
Engine – gearbox
– axle
The engine needs
dismantling and re assembly, and will need a new type rear oil seal fitting.
The condition of the bearings is unknown, but the engine does turn. The
bores when last seen were wearing, but the engine did not smoke. A rebore
or new pistons + liners would probably be the best bet. The gearbox has
overdrive in top gear, and will need inspection, but worked when last used.
The seals and gaskets will need replacing to cure oil leaks. The prop shaft
appears to be OK. Two Lockheed type rear axles are with the car, the one
fitted was OK when last used, the other is of unknown condition, but will
need a new oil seal at least if used.
Brakes
The original Master cylinder is with the car, but of dubious quality.
There is a better master cylinder included, but this is untried.
The front and rear brakes etc are all with the car. The brake lines
need replacing
The handbrake needs re chroming, but comes with all fittings
